   |  |ertise, tensions over \'identit-

   |  | inequality. It will demonstra-
   |  |te each of these domains as a -
   |  |\'front\' of a broader social an-
   |  |d cultural conflict - a confli-
   |  |ct between those who have come-
   |  | to dominate the \'knowledge ec-
   |  |onomy\' and institutions of cul-
   |  |tural production and those who-
   |  | feel excluded therefrom. It w-
   |  |ill highlight the ways symboli-
   |  |c analysts - those elites who -
   |  |have not attained their social-
   |  | position by owning material a-
   |  |ssets but by trafficing in sym-
   |  |bols and rhetoric, images and -
   |  |narratives, data and analysis -
   |  |- deploy wokeness as a weapon -
   |  |in this conflict, often at the-
   |  | expense of those who are actu-
   |  |ally marginalized and disadvan-
   |  |taged in the prevailing order.-
   |  | As We Have Never Been Woke wi-
   |  |ll demonstrate, the Americans -
   |  |who are the primary producers -
   |  |and consumers of content on an-
   |  |tiracism, socialism, feminism,-
   |  | etc. also happen to be the pr-
   |  |imary beneficiaries of gendere-
   |  |d, racialized and other forms -
   |  |of inequality - and not passiv-
   |  |e beneficiaries. We are active-
   |  | participants in exploiting an-
   |  |d reproducing inequalities. Ho-
   |  |wever, it is difficult for us -
   |  |to \'see\' how we contribute to -
   |  |the problem －－ precisely becau-
   |  |se of our deeply felt commitme-
   |  |nts to social justice. This bo-
   |  |ok aims to deflate these self－－
   |  |serving narratives while disma-
   |  |ntling popular (and self-servi-
   |  |ng) narratives about the \'lose-
   |  |rs\' in the system - leaving re-
   |  |aders with a totally different-
   |  | understanding of how social i-
